چکیده
Abstract. In the frame of AlpArray project we analyse teleseismic data from permanent and temporary stations Alpine region to study seismic discontinuities down about 140 km depth. We average broadband S-waveform retrieve S-to-P converted signals below stations. order avoid processing artefacts, no deconvolution or filtering is applied, S arrival times are used as reference for stacking. show a number north–south east-west profiles through area. The Moho always seen very clearly, negative velocity gradients depth also visible in profiles. A depression along larger parts chain. It reaches its largest 60 beneath Tauern Window. However, ends abruptly near 13∘ E eastern This may represent crustal trench, where Eurasian lithosphere subducted Adriatic lithosphere. East an important along-strike change occurs; image changes completely. No deepening found this easterly region; instead bends up contact between European all way Pannonian Basin. There, lateral disappearance zone gradient uppermost indicates that S-dipping slab laterally terminates east Window axial Alps. area known have been affected by severe late-stage modifications crust during Miocene when ALCAPA (Alpine, Carpathian, Pannonian) block subject E-directed extrusion.

Mantle discontinuity structure beneath the southern east pacific rise from P-to-S converted phases
Receiver functions derived from teleseismic body waves recorded by ocean-bottom seismometers on the southern East Pacific Rise reveal shear waves converted from compressional waves at the mantle discontinuities near 410- and 660-kilometer depth. The thickness of the mantle transition zone between the two discontinuities is normal relative to the global average and indicates that upwelling benea...
متن کاملP-wave velocity structure of the crust and uppermost mantle beneath Iceland from local earthquake tomography
The structure of the crust and uppermost mantle beneath Iceland, the keys to understanding the magma plumbing system of the hotspot and hotspot–ridge interaction, was poorly constrained in previous seismological investigations. Here we develop a three-dimensional P-wave velocity model of the Icelandic crust and uppermost mantle from tomographic inversion of over 3500 first-arrivals from local e...

Crustal and uppermost mantle structure in southern Africa revealed from ambient noise and teleseismic tomography
S U M M A R Y Rayleigh wave phase velocity maps in southern Africa are obtained at periods from 6 to 40 s using seismic ambient noise tomography applied to data from the Southern Africa Seismic Experiment (SASE) deployed between 1997 and 1999. These phase velocity maps are combined with those from 45 to 143 s period which were determined previously using a two-planewave method by Li & Burke. In...
